Push & Pull
Push & Pull is a publishing project between two friends, Farah Kafei and Adam Blufarb, which explores and exploits common aspects of a collaborative relationship.
We wanted to collaborate on a project without ever really collaborating — letting the process dictate the outcome. We created a set of basic rules: Each zine was passed back and forth four times. Each round lasted three days, taking two weeks to complete a zine. The ideas, content, or design of the project was never discussed. Each round gave the designer total control — anything on the pages could be changed, altered, added to, or deleted. The outcome is a silent conversation between us, in which the aspects we explored — trust, power, balance, vulnerability, and tension — were not only the topics for the zines, but also realities of the process.
